... this is the notorious season of the tropical typhoons, throughout all the Far East. They begin in the Pacific Ocean and then move westward in a row one behind the other, like a class of Catholic schoolgirls crossing the road.
Flying in the middle of a tropical typhoon is highly inadvisable, as it should be not advisable to hold a Formula One Grand Prix. Surely those who established the Calendar of the F1 Championship have never traveled to the Far East this season. But I did it for my work, because my Corporate always plans our missions there in this season, as the travel fares are much lower...
Actually, once I was coming home from Vietnam and I should have taken a connecting flight to Italy in Hong Kong: indeed the Cathay Pacific A340 did not arrive to Hong Kong in time, because the Captain thought it was safer to stop for three hours in Macao to let a tropical typhoon pass over us. Three hours in the heat of the night, still on the track with the doors open and the air conditioning off, because no one had a visa for China and we were not allowed to get off. And once in Hong Kong, I managed to take my connecting flight for 10 minutes, so leaving my suitcase on the ground (it came back home after a week, my lucky Samsonite Oyster Carat!).
Yes, our job can be shitty at times, but at least I have not broken my head like the poor Jules Bianchi did. Who btw earns much more money than me, so I suppose that as Albert Einstein liked to say, indeed everything is relative.

Currently on Guam right now. The storm isn't terrible, however all of the forecasts have Vongfong hitting Rota/Saipan harder than Guam. Then again, my idea of "not terrible" could be much different than someone else who hasn't ridden out a few large hurricanes like Ivan, Irene & Sandy).

I once rode a hydrofoil through a typhoon - even flying above the water wasn't safe, we hit a wave so big I flew out of my seat.
